What the assault on Omaha would look like televised with today’s main stream media

Wesley Spencer June 13th, 2008

I’ve thought this for a long time, but figured now I should actually post something.  Be very careful of what you hear when it comes to the main stream media.  I find the most naive people are often the ones who believe what CNN and MSNBC tell them at face value.

I saw this on Michelle Malkin’s site, and if you never read her, you should.  Check this video out and let me know what you think.  From Michelle’s website:

Today is the 64th anniversary of D-Day.

Two items for you to commemorate.

1) First, read Ronald Reagan’s unforgettable Pointe du Hoc speech on the 40th anniversary.

2) Watch this brilliant video produced last year by The Combat Report on how today’s media would have covered the 1944 Normandy invasion. Dead on:

Springtime at the Spencer’s

laura April 22nd, 2008

I’m sure everyone’s enjoying the good weather! We sure are. We’ve got spring fever.  We’ve even attempted to grow a garden…we’ll see how it goes. Here’s some pics of what spring looks like at our house.

Some crazy robin decided to build it’s nest right in our carport window even after Wesley moved its first attempt to a nearby bush. We were amazed to see what a little bird could accomplish in one day!

I’m pretty proud of my tulips!

And Sophie who’s getting really good at catching a frisbee! She can even catch in the dark. Good Girl!

That’s it for now. We hope you are enjoying the spring as much as we are!

Vacation Time!

Wesley Spencer March 26th, 2008

Williamsburg Carriage ManLaura and I just got back from vacation last week in Williamsburg, VA. You know - the whole Jamestown, Yorktown, Colonial Williamsburg experience. We had a great time getting away from everything and enjoying some time off work. Getting to see some of the original English settlements in the United States from the early 1600’s to 1700’s was quite astounding. Plus, I had just finished reading 1776 by David McCullough. A great read, and it really brought the area to life!

So without further adieu, here are some photos that we took. This is just a a few, we have many more. :-)

Hello everyone!  Laura, Erik, Andrea and myself got the opportunity to go to Florida a couple of weeks ago. We got to do some super cool stuff, a couple of which were camera-friendly, such as a trip to St. Augustine and the beach, and a trip out on the Suwannee River. In addition, we also got to go to the Gators open football practice, as it was the only open practice week for the public. I’ve posted some photos of the trip:

Weddings, Weddings, Weddings…

Wesley Spencer August 21st, 2007

One of the best things about the summer time is all the weddings to be had! Seriously, we really begin to miss alot of our friends, and it’s just wonderful when weddings bring together people we haven’t seen in such a long time!

This past week, Laura & I went to Tama Page and Stuart Phillips’ Wedding. What a blast! It was GREAT getting to see old friends and even making new ones as well. Here are a few photos (okay, a BUNCH, really) for you!

Back to school… Back to school… to show the teacher I’m not a fool!

Wesley Spencer August 9th, 2006

I’ve been meaning to update for a while now and tell you all some the recent news of our lives. I suppose now is a great time to do it!

About a year ago, I was approached by the chairman of the school department I was in if I would be interested in teaching a class here at Murray State. They were in a major crunch, and they just needed someone to fill in for them by teaching a class. Well, to make a long story short, I agreed to teach the class… and loved it!

At this point in time, I had never seen myself as a college professor, but after teaching the class, it was like a whole new horizon of possibilities struck me. Growing up, my dad was a college professor for well over 10 years, and I was used to living in a family where him having summers off gave us 2 week vacations, a less stressful work-life for him, and much more. So as I thought through all the benefits of being a college professor, it became, as they say, ‘like father, like son’. :-)

So, as Laura and I began to discuss it and pray over the possibilities, I really feel like the Lord has opened up this new door in life, and it is one that I’m very excited about stepping into. I now have a job at Murray State where I am a Network Administrator, and I’m teaching two classes, one each semester. I am also starting on my Master’s degree at Murray State, which will be in TSM once again. I will hopefully finish the degree in 1.5 to 2 years. After that, I’ll be starting on a Ph.D..

Although I really am not excited about the extra 6 years of schooling, after they are over, I will be able to teach here at Murray full time with summer off, Lord willing! Besides, it’s quite worth the hassle of taking more classes just to get the opportunity to be around college students again. Ever since graduating, I have always held a passion for college ministry, because I have a passion for college students. For me, there is no better way to be a light in the darkness of Murray State University than being a college professor! It’s quite amazing to think about this progression of events over this year. I never thought I’d find myself as a college professor, but this is what the Lord would have, and I am eager to step into it!
So, for those of you wondering what we are up to, this is, at least in part, an update! If I can manage get Laura to log into this blog, she’ll update you on what she’s up to as well!

More Pictures… again

Wesley Spencer August 8th, 2006

Well, Laura and I have been to a slew of weddings. If my memory serves me right, I think we’ve been to five weddings so far, and we weren’t able to attend two others. Wow! I guess its just that time of year and everyone is getting married.
It was so great to see so many of our brothers and sisters in Christ get married. What an encouraging time! It also makes me quite thankful that I’m already married! Laura and I were remarking about how stressful that time was. But it was well worth it.

Anyhow, here are some photos for your enjoyment! As always, if you’d like any of them, let me know and I’d be happy to get them for you!
